Are the 17"x8" really more like a 17x7.5"? If so they will fit. Pay attention to the offset though. I'm running 17"x7.5" 38mm offset on my 1988 9000T, my brother's running the same size on his 1994 9000 Aero with a 40mm offset though. The correct tire size would be 215/45-17. I can tell you that mine did rub at the rear on the trailing arms but, I added some 5mm spacers and all is fine. My brother didn't need any even though his rims are 2mm closer to the inside than mine are(it's very close), perhaps the newer cars have a larger wheel area(so I've heard)? So I kinda think that a 17"x8" rim would fit if special attention is paid to the offset. That extra 1/2 inch in width would probably mean you'd need them to be about 12-14mm smaller in offset so figure 26-28mm on the offset and you should be o.k. and then because your now closer on the outside you'd have to bend up that outter lip to keep the tires from rubbing against them. Still there'd be no telling how things will work out. If it were me I'd stick to the 17"x7.5" w/38mm MAX in offset and forget about it, it's just too close..
See Ya,
Phil
