I will second Zeke's advise on putting the drive train together. Even though Thursday afternnon I didn't do it that way. I was lucky. My first attempt was a sucess. The SAAB 9k 5 speed transmission is heavy. Mating the transmission and the engine involves aligning both the input shaft of the transmission and the output shaft of the differential at the same time. If you don't suceed after several tries. Or if you are not careful and hang the weight of the transmission on the intermediate shaft, damage to the shaft is not unusal. Plus any damage to the shaft you can not see until everything is put together and you drive for a few hundred mile then all of a sudden, you are stranded. Because the shaft may have been cracked during installation.
So the safest way to put the drive train together, now you have all the space you need, is to fit the transmission to the engine without the intermediate shaft. It is quite easy that way since you only need to hook the transmission up to the alignment pins on the engine side and the bolt up. After they are bolted up, you then fit the intermediate shaft, the aluminum sheath, and the rear engine mount bracket onto the engine.
I'll repeat what Zeke said "ask me how I know this".
