From experience, I don't think that you can pull out of first or second gear without disengaging the clutch. At least the gearbox seems very hesitant to do so.

I've never tried to get the car moving without the clutch, my experience only relates to attempted "power shifting" once the car was moving. However, I had the luxury of depressing the clutch if things got hairy or at stop lights etc.

Either way, its going to grind...a lot. I've tried to do this before just for the hell of it - 3rd to 4th to 5th was no problem, I just don't recall ever really suceeding with a 1st to 2nd shift and maybe got 2nd to 3rd with grinding. Maybe you could try 1st to 3rd to 5th or something.

I recall that this kind of shifting was quite easy with my brothers old Nissan 240SX, I could do it without grinding in any gear. That car had a very nice transmission. Therfore, I believe that the design of 9000 transmission simply is not conducive to this kind of shifting.

However, I do believe that overall, the drivetrain is robust enough to take the abuse for a single trip, and no damage can occur once the car is in gear, and the 9000 engine will pull smooth and strong from 600 RPM... so go ahead and try it!

Just don't blame me if you strip all the teeth off of second gear. ;)
