where it is really really hot. I live in So. Cal., the weather right now IS LIKE Middle East, HOT (110F). Because the air cooler is in-line after the radiator cooler, in winter the A/T fluid stays warm from engine heat circulating through the radiator. In summer, the air cooler brings the A/T fluid temperature significantly below engine/radiator temperature. With your upgraded ECU, both the engine and A/T will dump more heat into the radiator, making it work overtime. I would install the air cooler to help out.
I would get a new Valeo cooler ($170) and hoses from eEuroparts to match your new transmission unless you can pressure-test used parts. The full oil pump pressure (90-100 psi) goes through the cooler. Because the cooler is in line before the torque converter and valve body, you also have to be extra clean when you install the fittings, etc. I use high-grade cleanroom lint-free wipes for all my A/T work.
One extra hint: to prevent rock or other debris hitting the air cooler and ruin the A/T, I also installed 3/16" wire mesh in the air dam inlet.
