Wiring Questions

Have a 90 9000S into which we put a used 5 speed and new clutch. Have the following wiring questions on re-assembly:
1. Not sure exactly what year/model the tranny came from but it has two switches at the end [driver's side] of the gearbox. One has the male ends pointing toward the driver's side wheel, which I suspect is the reverse light switch, and the other points up, toward the hood. My car only seems to have one female connector with two white wires for the reverse switch. Any hints?
2. There is a relatively heavy single wire with a connector that takes a bolt. It comes into the engine compartment out of the cabin on the driver's side from the pass through that seems to have the main wiring bundle also. This "seems" to go to the power distribution block, but I am afraid to put 12 volts on it because it might also be some kind of ground. Looks like it is black, but can't tell because heavily insulated.
Any help is appreciated.
