At the risk of being flamed, here goes... some quarters consider the 9k to be less than a 'real' Saab since it was originally developed as a shared platform with Lancia and Alfa Romeo [and maybe one more]. If I recall the history correctly, this was done to allow a new larger [than the then current 99/900 series] to be marketed without attendant costs. [You'll also remember that the 900 is basically a 99 from the 'A' pillar aft grafted to a stretched nose.]
With the partners having a say with different criteria on the platform than Saab would have on its own, it would have been a surprise if the car had a similar feel to the 99/900 despite having the Saab driveline [though the engine got turned sideways]. Of course, with GM ownership, global platform sharing will be the norm. Whether that's a plus or minus depends on the [potential future] buyer. It may also mean that a certain character that was formerly associated with the brand will evolve into something else. I don't consider it a positive when I have to make minor cosmetic changes to make it more readily spotted in a crowded parking lot.
