Hope I did'nt scare too many people off with this "v6"
Just got myself some time to go more thoroughly through the SAAB electronic parts catalog (EPC) I got from fellow Saabnetter Roman B. This is terrific stuff!!!! Your whole car in exploded views with listings up to the last nut. The only thing missing are the prices, probably too embarassing for Saab ;->
Anyhow, gave myself some time to look things up on my new '95 Griffin V6. One of the things the dealer I bought it from told me was that the car apparently had an intermittent TCS problem they could not diagnose (Sic!). At that time I didn't bother too much as I knew that the V6 TCS is totally different from the Aero and 2.3FPT variant. It has its own throttle butterfly and when the system develops a fault, it just opens the valve and switches off. No LHM symptoms. So I thought that you just didn't have TCS then, which is fine with me. I know the ancient art of 'backing off the gas'.
Driving the car I was a bit surprised the idiot light never went on since I bought it. I also noticed some inconsistency in performance under strain, as if the car was holding back under certain circumstances. The auto would also shift a bit early, even after gas & kickdown cable adjustment.
Now going though the SAAB EPC today, I got confirmed that my car does have an ETS (which is logical), but the relay behind the airbag that corresponds with it is not there. So my questions are:
- Is this car supposed to have this relay (type 85 33 176)at position 12 of the relay board (third row from fuses, third from the left)? Can someone with a similar V6 car look this up or check it? Perhaps the dealer just took it out to switch the system off or to get rid of this annoying idiot light. The relay box *has* been tampered with.
- Does anybody know if this type of TCS also continuously interferes with engine performance and shifting?
If somebody can answer this positively, I have a new project to look forward to. Not perticularly pleased with this one, though.
Thanks for any info,
Jan Geert
