It looked to me like the rear plugs would be accessible by removing some of the wiring and a tray like thingie. I guess I'll order the manifold gaskets just in case it has to come off.

My car had developed a slight engine miss which was getting worse. I pulled the uppper covers off to look at the front spark plugs and discovered the spark plug wells were completely full of oil. That's why I'll be replacing the valve cover gaskets. As far as the engine miss, it turns out the number 2 plug wire was broken just inside the boot at the distributor cap. It became completely separated when I wiggled the wire bunch to remove the wire from number 6.

So my plans are to redo the valve cover gaskets, plugs and plug wires this weekend. I was hoping to avoid pulling the intake manifold off.

Anders faxed over a page which shows the throttle and kickdown cable adjustments. The special tool could simply be a dowel. I've not done the procedure yet. I don't have the papers in front of me now so I don't know what the distances were for cable travel. Would you like me to fax the 2 pages to you?

The reason I was looking into this is I had a hard shift from 3rd to 4th. My indie adjusted the kickdown cable and now I'm experiencing a slow shift between gears. In addition, I've never paid much attention to the auto trans before but recently discovered that when I had the car serviced at the dealer 10k miles ago, they overfilled the transmission. So I'll be draining it, replacing the filter and refilling this weekend. That, plus adjusting the kickdown will hopefully solve my shifting problems.

By the way, when I looked at how my indie had adjusted the kickdown cable, the crimped ring was just slightly resting on the outer cable. The travel to full throttle was 44mm. I had not measured the travel just to the point of activating the kickdown in the trans but it was probably around 40mm.
