I am pretty sure that the 2.0L and 2.3L head configurations are similar, since I have heard of people swapping them. I was mainly concerned with diameters of the TB and AMM, since an intake manifold can be easily ported at home. A BBTB and larger AMM are more difficult/expensive.

The way I am leaning right now is to use the existing 1990 setup and so some slight mods to run the 2.3L. Seems less expensive and should work just fine.

Regarding the question of upgrading the 2.0, I decided to go with the 2.3L after blowing my transmission. Finding a 1990 tranny proved difficult, but I found a 1993 for a really good price. The same source has a 92 engine that is also a really good price.

The 2.0L of mine has 170+k miles, I believe a bad head gasket, and some oil leaks. So, I could either spend a couple hundred rebuilding and upgrading that thing, or I could spend a couple hundred and get a bigger engine capable of more torque/hp with less effort. I choose this route, as I was previously running ~20 psi boost on the 2.0L to get the power I wanted, but this also puts a strain on the engine.

Hope this explains a bit. Like I said, I am only concerned with diameter differences, flows, etc.
