I understand you to be saying that this wacky behavior (or behaviour - where's BillJ been?) occurs ONLY on Auto and NOT on Econ. I am depending on this to be true in my thinking about your problem. If that is the case, this would point toward the ACC unit to me. Except......
you mention dimming lights. Which raises a whole host of other issues. I am wondering if what you are seeing is a problem caused by the electrical system or the AC compressor. First, try checking the ac compressor while you are getting the wacky behavior and see if the compressor clutch is cycling in time with the blower motor changing speed. If you have harsh engagement of a Seiko compessor, it can put a serious load on the engine, which will also slow the alternator, which will reduce available amps to power all the accessories. You could also have a charging system problem. Inconsistent current can lead to wierd electrical behavior.
