rear wheel bearing failing?

What are the classic symptoms of a failing rear wheel bearing on the 9000? I have this mystery high cycle vibration at 108 km/h and above. Extensive work done on (new) tires to no avail. The vibration can be felt in the whole body of the car and it's so slight that the wife didn't notice at all before I pointed it out ... smile.
Today I detected an unusual "drrrrr...." type noise from right hand side rear of the car while driving on gravel roads at low speeds.... The sound stops completely if the hand brake is applied even just a bit. Can't hear this on paved roads at all.
I would have expected a whining or grinding type of noise from a failing bearing....
Remember that when I replaced the rear shocks a while ago, the right rear wheel bearing came apart w/o trying - though it should be "sealed". It looked very good, swiped the old hard grease off and repacked it.
Hmmmm.... any comments?
Regards,
Tapani
