Are you still using the stock APC unit, and base boost left unadjusted? If so, a 3.0 bar FPR will do nothing for you, except increase your fuel usage, and possibly even make the car have less torque/power due to the mixture being over-rich.
You need more air to take advantage of more fuel. Ditto for high flow injectors, they won't help you if you don't raise boost, unless your stock ones are so clogged they are barely working - highly unlikely.
Tweaking your own APC is pretty safe as long as you don't touch the K pot. General rule of thumb is to turn F in almost all the way, they adjust your maximum boost using the P pot. This seems to work well for my car, though there are gobs of different combinations, and mind you, my APC has also been professionally modified before I ever began tweaking it.
In theory, a professionally modified APC is much better than a self tweaked one, but after my experiences, I am not so sure. I still have my stock APC, and one of these days I am going to tweak it myself and then compare to the one for which I paid almost $200.
The timing mod is great to do, even if you don't seriously increase boost. In that case, you may indeed be able to take advantage of more fuel without raising boost, but it will be more to prevent detonation than anything else. What advanced timing will give you is more torque at a lower rpm, which really helps with the 2.0lT cars, especially with the big T3 turbo.
Beware the timing mod I have though - it's not linear, it dumps all 10 degrees of it's retard (stock unit only has 5 degrees) at about 5-6 psi, which can create a flat spot in response at that boost level. Better, but much more expensive, is the SPG9 A.I.D., which I believe is linear. Better still is the MSD BTM, about the same money as the A.I.D. but fully adjustable to your liking. I heard it can be tricky to get dialed in though. A.I.D. and the mod I have are plug and play, though I believe the A.I.D. is adjustable somewhat.
If you want to stick with the 3.0 bar FPR, you should be able to raise max boost, via the P pot, to roughly 13 psi safely. If your base boost is too low however, as it tends to be with cars as old as ours, you may have to crank P all the way to get to that boost level. Even with my modified APC I could only get 15-16 psi becase base boost was too low.
