I got the valve body springs changed on Monday and everything seemed almost perfect. Right after the operation, in maybe 3rd or 4th traffic lights, the trans suddenly seemed to go into neutral when slowing down on 4th gear. It stayed off the gear a few seconds, then clunked a gear in. Since this didn't happen again, i thought it was just a temporary problem - the box maybe wasn't quite yet adjusted to the new springs or stuff.
So a week of driving in city traffic was okay, but now my wife took a 200km trip on highway speeds and called me while she arrived at destination. It had done the gear-missing from 4th several times, always when slowing down. Could it be a valve sticking, or did the mechanic something wrong with the spring change? I expected the springs to fix the somtimes slow engagement from 3 to 4 - they didn't (they did fix the harsh engagement of D from park, though.)
Actually, the 3-4 slowness only initially became irritable after a fluid change in August. Hmm, maybe there is too much fluid... Now the level is at the MAX line after a short warm-up trip. If too much fluid can cause this kind of trouble, it might explain why this happens in highway driving if the fluid expands more in higher temperatures caused by higher speed driving.
So, any theories? Sticking valve? Too much fluid? Or too much fluid _causing_ sticking valve? Or something other - how do bad governor seals manifest themselves?
