1993 9K CSE, Shock/strut recommendations?

My folks own a 1993 9K CSE with 117K miles and love the car. They are not interested in getting a new Saab now that the (larger) hatchback is no longer built, so they are finally thinking about replacing the shocks/struts.
I'm tasked with making the decisions and I'm looking for input for brands based on the fact they do not want a harsh ride, but want them to last another 60K (they are 63 years old and think the car rides fine, but could be more controlled with the original shocks/struts with 117K). I'm asking for input because I like Bilstein HDs, but they tend to be harsh and I've chewed through a set of Kayabas in my previous vehicle in 20K miles (I've had better results in other vehicles with Kayabas and don't want to write them off yet).
Thanks for your input.
