A 1988 9000 turbo automatic parts car literally fell into my lap. It was missing the radiator, turbo vacuum valve, climate control unit, and that's about it. With it I also received an 87 9000S automatic. It was in much rougher shape. I decided to investigate the 88 before deligating it to be a donor. The person I got the cars from had no knowledge of what might be wrong other than to say the tranny was locked up. It was locked up as in the shift cable was broken. I did a compression test after charging the battery (numbers weren't horrible) so I cranked her up. Much to my surprise it came to life immediately. I replaced the missing items and I am driving it today. The main issues I still have are:
1. ABS and brake fluid lights come on at almost every stop (at the tail end of the stop). From what I have read here this is probably a faulty accumulator. Assuming that to be correct (I have a spare) is there any precautions I need to take or be aware of. I know there is a lot of pressure in those systems. What is the best way to bleed the pressure off?
2. It seems I have a problem with the heat control servo. When I look in from the engine side I can see that the cable is attached but does not move when I change the temp setting. I can move it manually with my hand and there is no resistance to the movement. I tried calibrating the control unit and also tried a 2nd control unit but nothing changed. How do I gain access to the control servo?
3. I have very little, if any, turbo boost. I do hear a sucking type sound when it should be going on turbo but can't seem to isolate the origin. I figure it must be a vacuum leak but I have had no success in finding it.
4. When I put the accelerator down hard while driving along it does not kick down to a lower gear. It goes to neutral and revs until I back off. Is this a function of the kick down cable?
I guess that is more than enough for now. As always, thanks for any and all replies.
