Gary,
Let me see if I can help with some of the items:

1. Sounds quite possible the accumulator is bad, although this could be several other things, too. If I were you, I'd install a brand-new accumulator - the parts-car one may be bad, too! They fail pretty frequently, and if I were going to the trouble of replacing it, I'd install a new one. Bleeding is easy: just leave the ignition off and depress the brake pedal repeatedly. With a junk accumulator it may only take 1 or 2 presses to do the job, but I'd press it 15 or 20 times just to be safe.

2. Easiest way to get to the servos is to remove the glovebox. Then they're readily accessible - they're attached to the right-hand side of the climate-control assembly in the center of the car.

3. Have you checked the turbo bypass valve (a/k/a hooter valve)? It's one of several possibilities, search this BBS for test procedures, and other things that could cause this problem. Also, does it sound like the noise is coming from inside the dashboard? It's possible the vacuum line going to the overboost switch, APC pressure sensor, and boost gauge is leaking. This would make the noise you describe and cause the gauge to read incorrectly.

4. I hate to say this, but it sounds like you've got an internal transmission problem. A bad kickdown cable adjustment won't ever cause it to jump into neutral. This is another area where searching this BBS might be helpful - the subject of automatic transmission trouble comes up a lot here!
