Car: 1991 9000 CD Turbo Automatic with 72k miles
I have the oil changed about every 3k to 5k miles at the same place so they keep a record of all my work on the car. Every time I go they recommend something else that needs to be done, but I'm always wary. This time they recommended that I have the transmission fluid changed since I haven't had that changed since 2000. They say it needs to be changed every year or 30k miles whichever comes first (who the heck drives 30k miles in a year?). We probably average less than 8k miles a year on the car.
1) How often should I have the transmission fluid changed (at a cost of $79.99)?
2) How often do I really need to have the oil changed? I noticed the manual seems to suggest every 7,500 miles is ok?
3) Any other fluid changes that should be made yearly or more often.
thanks for any and all advice. I hate feeling like a know nothing in the hands of guys who'd love to take as much of my money as possible.
PS-- the car still handles superbly and I'd love to keep it that way. Recently however I've noticed that it may take 2 cranks of the engine or a crank and simultaneous pump of the gas for the engine to start, where as before 1 turn of the key was all that was ever necessary. Could this be as a result of not changing the transmission fluid as they insist?
