Before you even think about putting that new heater core/blower motor in, CHECK TO MAKE SURE YOUR NEW BLOWER MOTOR WORKS! I just finished up, new heater core hoses and lower water pump hose - filled it up w/ fresh coolant...then cranked it up. Blower motor isn't working. Took the aquarium cover off, ran jumpers directly to the motor - still nothing.

Hopefully since I know how to do this, I can be in there in less than an hour. The job took about 8, but the hard part is flushing 4 or 5 times, locating and trying to remove all those hose clamps, false firewall bolts, cruise control unit, etc. And the thermostat is located in the worst possible spot. Perfect job for a woman tall woman with little hands (if you can recruit one.)

Anyone succesfully remove the blower motor w/out having to drain the coolant and remove the heater core hoses? I guess i'll find out shortly - hopefully there is enough room.

Also, I drained the coolant, installed a flush tee and ran water for about an hour. Drained, then added prestone radiator flush, ran till the thermostat opened up, flushed again and ran more water a couple more times. I had been using Bars leaks to patch the leaky heater core, and you wouldn't believe the buildup in the hoses (2 bottles added) in there. And I had changed and flushed the coolant last summer too! Nasty stuff, if your Saab is running hot and you are using bar's leaks...this might be your problem. From my experience - especially since doing a flush and adding fresh coolant last summer - Bar's leaks made my car run hot yet never patched the heater core hole. My car is back together and running so nice with the bars leaks out of there. I installed a flush tee in the new heater core hose as well for future flushes.

Is this a tough job? Yes, but it is very do-able if you have the right tools and tiny hands. Glad I tackled it myself though. Now if I could only get this brand-spanking new blower motor to work...
