Even though I am a mechanical engineer by practice, I was a structural engineer by training.
Let see, assume conservatively stud grade southern pine was used. This gives the maximum one time allowable extreme fiber bending stress of 850 psi. Better grade SP like No. 1 or No. 2, or even select structural could have the allowable stress as high as 2,000 psi. But let's stick to the low number. The section modulus of the 4x4 is 7.15 cubic inch. This gives the allowable max. bending moment on the 4x4 6,078 in-lbs, or 506 ft-lbs. Assume further the 4x4 is 5 feet long loaded in the center, this give the allowable load of 405 lbs. Note offset load point as in our case will increase the allowable somewhat.
The drive train of the 9k, massive as it is, is less than 400 lbs. But if you need my PE stamp, I will have to charge you.
