I had the same trouble and checked the archives. Several posts about prying off little cover and replacing the rubber valve with a piece of a latex baloon or glove. It took me 5 minutes. I followed the advice and did not even have to cut the new rubber, I simply stretced the new rubber over the opening and snapped the cover back on while the rubber was still streched. Trim afterward.
I must credit the person who posted this method. I did not come up with it on my own.
