The lights were out in the window switch panel. I followed the Haynes instructions to remove the panel - remove the shift lever boot (remove leather then 1 screw) then push out the panel from underneath. Forget going through the handbrake hole or prying it with a screwdriver like some other posters have suggested, at least on my car the panel was too tight.
The later 9000s (like mine) have just one bulb to light the switch panel. I found it was a similar bulb (not exactly, but fits and works fine) as the EDU in the dash. No point going to rad shack for a "close" replacement as I only paid $1.60(CDN) each at the dealer for EDU bulbs (I buy extra of everything cheap so I had some on hand.
15 minutes once you know how to do it.
