Oddly, I trust mine but only to an extent >

This function on both my Saabs seems to have worked surprisingly accurately provided I remember (a) to lay off for the fact that my car's fuel consumption figures are optimistic and (b) in an old car, there might be muck in the tank right at the bottom, which I don't want to ingest. I've been pretty low, about 15 miles. It seems to be independent of the "low fuel" light which comes on perilously late on my present car. But you are braver than me if you trust it below say 10 miles!
Obviously all cars are different, too, and running out of fuel is bad for both your car and your social life! I think the R stands for "reserve" but I don't know what that means in real life as, once again, all gauges seem to be different: when mine reads half-full there's only about four (British) gallons to go.
