Well, another update. (I'm up to a whole bunch of bandaids now.)

I got the motor changed out. What a pain that was! I had a lot of trouble getting the fan off the motor shaft. I finally pulled out the drill and made a little indentation for the screwdriver to sit into better and got the shaft driven out. I didn't have a vise, but setting the assembly on 3 gallon paint cans worked just as well.

I replaced the heater core (the old one looked OK, but I swapped it anyways), and got the blower housing reassembled and tested.

And then I tried to put the housing back in. And tried. And tried. I've given up for the evening. It came out, so logically, it should go back. Logic, however, doesn't seem to apply here. I did call the local indie, and they quoted an hour (or less) labor to reinstall the housing. Hmmm. $65 versus a couple more hours of pain and potentially breaking something else. I'll see how things look tomorrow before deciding that one. Feels like such a cop-out though...
