Evan,
Get the VIN# from the car after the test drive. Call the dealer that it has been serviced at and speak to the service mgr, assistant or cust svc rep. Tell them you are looking to buy the car and you would like to get an idea of how well the car was maintained. Ask them to pull up the service record on the computer and see if it has been there often or very little since purchase? How often did they do oil changes, if at all? Were any major, non-scheduled svcs performed and what were they? Write this all down so you can report back here. Also, and very important, did the owner have the car in for Saab SCHEDULED services as outlined in the Operator's svc Manual. Were there any recommended repairs that were declined and never performed.

The point here is that you have one thing going for you. It's a one owner car and that's good. It's even better if you find from the Svc Dept that the owner took it in consistently for major repairs, oil changes, and scheduled repairs. Granted he may not have had his oil changes all done there but you can ask where he did. Someone who cares enough for the car and has the monetary flexibility to have their car cared for by a Saab dealer is a great sign that problems haven't gone unresolved, etc. If on the other hand, he never had it to the Dealer after the free 5000 mile svc then you've got some concerns to deal with. If a local private guy worked on it, call him and start from the top. The above posts have covered the major things to look out for. If you have a good feeling about the car but there are still some concerns, spend $80-100 bucks and have a Saab mechanic give it a look see. Hope this helps. Good luck. Buy a Saab.
