Andrew I just spent the last four months shopping for a new car, but I had decided I was going to get a '97 or '98 9000 CSE or Aero with an automatic. I finally found a '98 CSE, which are quite rare and paid $12,800 for it. Now, in 93 they began the new body style which you probably know, however, there are a number of differences between a '93 and a '94. Bodywise they are nearly identical, there were engine control system/safety improvements that would tempt me to steer you to the '94. Further, the '96 is different/upgraded/improved from the '94 and '95 in many ways as well. Others here on the Board could be more specific. The point is that the '96 was sort of the last generation, grouped with the '97 and '98 model years. So, because of this evolution, if you will, it is less likely you will see all the typical problems that you often here about that were commonplace with '93 to '95 versions. You will still have a problem, it's inevitable, but in my humble opinion, these cars got leaps better by '96. If you can find a '96 or later in your price range AND you are happy with its service history (we can help you there too) then you increase your chances of investing in a great Saab.

Oh, and dollar for dollar in the pre-owned market, I strongly believe you will get much, much more car compared to those other brands you mentioned.
