88 9KT just coughed up oil through the dipstick!

At 225K, I decided to buy shocks and other "nice" things since this car has treated me so well. But a week later, this... I was driving home on nice dry roads with few cars( it's like that in Alaska) going about 105mph. I let off a bit on the accelerator going around a corner and it felt like it was missing when I got back in it. So I just puttered home about 70 for another 8 miles until a hill which demanded 4th gear at 60. Finally, she gave up the ghost and died when I put in the clutch. I restarted her once to get her in the driveway. And then coasted in. It sounded like a broken timing belt sound when I turned the starter motor over(yes, I know it is a chain, hopefully attached still, original). Other than that, oil was blown all over the firewall and around the belt, coming from the oilcap dipstick. No overheating. No "check oil" light. Some turbo boost. I will tackle it tomorrow, but I know someone out there is going to tell me what probably happened. So, what happened? Thanks guys!
