What I was saying is that when I tightened the kickdown cable to speed up the 4-3 shift, I got this symptom where on the 3-4 shift the engine would feel like it was free revving for a couple of seconds before 4th engaged. This sounds to me a lot like what you have going on. Which is not to say you have the same issue I did. With the kickdown cable in this position, there was also a little surging like feeling on the 2-3; 3-2 shifts.
The manual specifies a special tool to adjust the kickdown cable. The tool goes in the throttle body and holds the plate in a specific position so the kickdown cable can be set. I am not too sure about the Townsend description of the setting the cable by measurement.
