3.678 miles (why not 3.734? ;-)) is a long time. I would take that as an interval if the fluid was 'regular' quality. If you're coming from a backlog, you need to get it up to snuff first. A dealer would change it once, take it for a drive, and change again. So they obviously think that is good enough to mix. I don't think you need to drive 3.678 miles to mix the old and the new fluid.
I myself did it on three consecutive weekends, which was absolutely fine.
Changed filter only once, BTW. Got over 4 liters (approx a gallon) out of it every time. Make sure to recover the magnet.
What helps is to make sure beforehand that the fluid level is o.k.. That allows you to measure what comes out and put the same amount back in. I had an overfill to begin with, which made it more complicated.
NEVER allow the tranny to be overfilled!
