At a measley 105mph, I apparently got a hole in top of the #4 pison. I can see right through to the wrist pin through the sparkplug hole. I have gone much faster for 15 miles at a time many times before, but maybe at225K miles, she was ready to let go somewhere. It doesn't appear that I dropped a valve either, although I'll be pulling it apart soon. The question becomes, Am I just looking at a set of piston/rings and lower crank bearings while I am in there as long as scoring isn't evident? Or perhaps a 100K engine at the boneyard for 700 dollars? Maybe grab the fivespeed while I am at it if I go that route.
Decisions, decisions. When I pull the motor, would I be just as well to grab the entire engine/trans in one pull? Just looking for a tip here.
Thanks for your patience and interest. I really haven't thought twice about getting anything but another Saab to replace it. Anyone want to deliver an Aero to Alaska? I'll show you a great time if you come and buy you a ticket home!
