that letting the car idle after a cold start (as opposed to driving immediately, but conservatively, at low RPM), would starve the upper galleries. Really, I'm talking about idling for a few minutes as opposed to 30 seconds.
Idling gives you the lowest possible oil pressure, so wouldn't driving conservatively give you a better compromise by adding at least some oil pressure to already sluggish oil?
I know that my noisy lifters quiet down much faster if I drive the car, then if I let it idle to warm up. I take this to mean that the oil is circulating less effectively in the latter situation.
I guess there's no way to really tell though, like Ari says - shades of grey.
