I have what you would call an 'inductive' ammeter for dc current, you just set it on the wire and it reads dc amp draw for that wire and/or that system. It, however, is not as sensitive as bruce is looking for. The problem withputting an ammeter inline permenantly is that not only does it have to be sensitive to measure ma, but be able to handles a full current load (easily up to 100amp).
Sorry, but I don't know of such a beast, there is probably one available somewhere though.
