I'm driving an 88' 9000T with 17x7.5 rims and 205-45/17(P-zero's)on them and they "DID" rud on the rear trailing arm (passenger side only?)and mostly while making turns. I added wheel spacers in the rear(4-5mm) and all is fine.
My brother drives a 1993 9000 AERO with the same size rims as above, and with 215-45/17 tires and he has NO RUBBING or needed NO SPACERS.
A different brother of mine drives a 1996 9000 CS or CSE (no turbo) and he's using the same exact rims(identical)as my brother has on his AERO and they wear 205-45/17's. NO RUBBING and needed NO SPACERS.
I've taken looks underneath the rear of all 3 of the above cars side by side and I can say that the earlier models seem to have a ever so slightly smaller wheel area in the rear and will tolerate less in tire and rim PLUS sizing. In the face of progress though, something has to give.
What doesn't fit, must as stock gear won't do. I should also add though that NONE of us(me and my brothers)have tires as wide as the 225mm you mention initially. Personally from what I've seen, it's not the tire size that's the problem but rather the rim because my tires NEVER RUBBED..
See Ya,
Phil
