The traction is marginally improved, yet I'm always hesitating to push it to the limit because the rubbing is much more likely to occur during hard cornering. I will gladly return to the correct size and lose a bit of tracion in order to avaid having to worry about it all the time.

The rubbing is severe enough to cause scuff marks on the edge of the tire, and also to cause scuff damage on the fender moulding.

DO NOT try to use 225/50/16 on the front of any pre '93 9000. That size is too wide and WILL RUB no matter what brand of tire you buy. 205/55/16 is the LARGEST size that will work on the front, and 205/50/16 is really the correct size to use.
