roman is the hole that your speaking of under the battery tray, next to the plastic wing liner? IF that is the one I am thinking of it should have been the shift up switch and would have looked like the one at the end of the trans. (which is the rev. light switch) The fluid loss could be from the right side output shaft seal or the input shaft seal both are prone to leaking with age.
