lost 3rd and 4th gear - HELP

1988 9000T. 5 speed manual.
I love this car, but it's bleeding me dry of money.
I'm having shift problems. The shift lever moves forward into position for 3rd gear but there is no drive. Sometimes 4th gear engages when I pull back, sometimes there is no drive at all there either. All other gears, 1st, 2nd, 5th and reverse appear to engage and drive perfect.
Please someone tell me it's the linkage? Or maybe a gear box or engine mount? Any suggestions? I'm out of money if it's the gearbox itself.
Thanks.
