This has been discussed not more than a day ago, have a look at the link at the bottom. Anyway, your problem is the switch that is in the font part of the door, in the low side of the car. It has a torx screw that holds it to the car frame. The possibilities are two: it's dirt on the outside, or it has a bad ground. If the first, take off the switch, open it, clean and put it on again. If the second, just take off and put on the screw, it's supposed to give ground to the switch.
Courtesy light and check panel are lit when door is open because there's another switch, in the door lock.
My car had this problem too when I bought it, it became an abitude to open the rear door before the driver one to turn on the light, until I found how to fix it!
