O.k. Sorry I've been lax in posting this, I know people have asked me to post a link and specific instuctions, but here goes:
First off I searched the archives under "Window Trim" it looks like Peter King did his '88 9kt and posted some instructions:
"Can't post pics, but... I used 600 grit wet/dry sandpaper and sanded all the black and chrome of the trim, being careful not to sand the rubber. I then masked using 1/2" paper tape available at home depot (the low tack blue stuff). This is the key as you have to lay the tape down very carefully so there's no over spray and so that you've not taped over areas you want to paint. It takes sometime. I used Rust-Oleum Satin Black. Low sheen and far superior to the flat black stuff IMO."
Now, I followed the instructions, but I should add that you need to use copious amounts of newspaper to protect the paint, if you mask carefully and precisely you ought to be o.k. where overspray is concerned.
I did my car a couple of weeks ago on the only dry in Portland and the paint has held up great. Today, if I have time, I'll try to get the one little spot of overspray off the paint, I picked some Turtle Wax Polishing Compound and I should be able to knock it out.
For any 9000 owner with fading chrome or black trim this makes a big difference in the look of the vehicle. That faded chrome window trim looks really bad on older cars, and says "cheap"...
If you folks would like some links to digital pics posted let me know, I will shoot a couple today and get them up!
Happy Saabing.
