Is the smell all the time, or just after a fillup? While driving, or only at idle?
If it occurs, right after a fillup, crawl under the right rear of the car and look at the back of the fuel tank, by the filler. There are a LOT of hoses and venting there - one may be off. It's not uncommon for the gasket where one of the smaller hoses goes into the top of the tank to shrink a little. When you fill the tank, a little fuel sloshes out the hole. Look for obvious dried-fuel marks running from the top of the tank.
If you only smell it at idle, check under the hood for any leaks. Pull off the right front turn signal assembly, and look in at the Charcoal Canister. It absorbs fuel vapors while the car is sitting, and release them into the intake manifold. Make sure the hoses are on. Lastly, the hose from the fuel tank to the canister runs through the passenger compartment - I'm not sure where in the 9000 - may be in the headliner. A small hole there would produce smell.
Of course, it may have dissappeared by now and not returned - in which case, don't worry.
