Apologies, I don't know if you are well up with 9000s or if this is your first - there seem to be at least three people posting as "Rich" ! Also don't know the engine size.

I wonder if your new CDE has automatic tranmission? If so, wouldn't expect to get into the red (just expect a large shove in the back as you accelerate torwards the horizon). But the same goes for manual tranny - the 1990 handbook I have says "under normal conditions the needle should not enter the red zone as a safety cutout system will limit the charging pressure to protect the engine".

Don't think a small exhaust leak would affect your boost (or even a large one, really) though it needs fixing. It sounds as though your car is just fine.
