Hi all,
thanks for all the advise, it's paid dividends.
My earth leads were fine but the positive leads coming off the terminal block directly in front of and below the battery were not - lots of electrolytic corrosion so I did the following and since then have had no problems at all AND it solved 2 other electrical problems that I wasn't aware were linked, ie. cruise control now works and the rear window defroster doesn't cause the engine revs to drop.
I,
removed the battery,
removed all the leads from the positive (+) terminal block,
cut all the wires (except the feeder from the battery which looked OK) off their lugs,
recrimped all the wires SEPARATELY,
wire brushed the terminal block clean,
reconnected the lugs to the terminal block,
gave the battery terminals and lugs a good birthday,
reconnected the battery,
gave all connections a good coating of Vaseline,
then brrrrrrrmmmm, away laughing!
cheers,
Liam
