I noticed the serpetine belt was really loose, so I tightened it, hoping to get my alternator working. Before i did this, the battery light was never going off, and it wasn't charging (duh). So I started her up, and after a few moments the battery light goes out. harrah! BUT, after a few more minutes, the charge started going down! The battery light stayed off, but the charge kept going down, began running crappy at about 7volts, and I shut her down at 6.
On a possibly related note, there was a clacking noise that we thought at first glance was an AC pulley. On closer inspection, it is the pulley right below the tensioner, w/ the belt running on the bottom of it. Sorry, but I don't have a book yet and I'm (obviously) not very knowledgeable (learning as I go). Where does this pulley go to? Thanks!
I'll get it to run right someday, and you gotta love the outside temperature setting.. -9!
