When you say the pulley under the tensioner do you mean the pulley on the alternator or the Harmonic Ballancer? The harmonic ballancer is the crankshaft pulley which is much lower on the crankcase than the alternator pulley would be. (At least this is how it is on mu 88 9kt. I do not know your year and model) My alternator just went. I heard a metal on metal griding type of sound, the alternator bearing died. This could be what you are hearing. Check out the pulleys, and let us know your year and model.
Good luck!
