in my '97 the hazards work through the same relay as the L&R turn signals. The problem is that as the relay contacts wear, mostly from using the L&R independently, the relay can't generate enough draw to pull the switch closed on both of them at the same time. So durring normal L&R blinker use, they work fine. Turn on the hazard switch and the gap in the contacts is twice as large for the same circuit to drive both L&R. I've taken the relay apart and i'm going to try to put some new material in the contact to make the transition smaller. But these are very small contacts and it might not be possible. Getting a used relay from salvage will probably not cure this for long. Seems like a wear item and should be replaced with new parts. $40 from eeuroparts.com pn:41 14 971 FYI, I thought at first it was the switch. Push the hazard switch and nothing happens. Hit the dash above the switch and they would come on for a few. The vibration on the top of the dash was enough to shake the contact in the relay, not the dash switch.
