2-3 years ago Scanwest installed a regenerated a/c compressor for me (I brought it in from airparts.com). They insisted that you can only trust brand new ones from SAAB which cost around $650 and I guess they were right, although back then I asked them to clean the system before putting the old freon back and they didn't do that. Airparts says that that's why it seized.
In anycase, I paid over 700 for the regenerated compressor job and I'm sure not going to spend another 1500... I'd love to do it myself before this summer, but am afraid to put too much time into it. Has anyone done the conversion to R134 and kept track of costs and time. Now that I took the belt off I would love to find out if I can do it slowly over some time.
