I'm glad to read questions I can answer!
It's pretty common here in Italy, and the diffusion is starting in other european countries too. I'm not informed much about this, but I know that in France, and in Germany it's a pretty common too, in England thay are at the beginning of the diffusion and in Spain they have to begin yet.
The only purpose is for economy. LPG costs half of the gasoline (or petrol) so, even if its heating power is lower than fuel, so the mileage is slightly worse, running the car is cheaper. If you spend 100 running on fuel, you can spend about 60 on LPG. LPG kits are always a PITA to make them work ok, they never run exactly goo. Lots of problems. But it's just a way to save some bucks, and it's the only way for me (I'm a student) to have such a big and powerful car. Otherwise, I'd broke.
Politics say that LPG is less pollutant that fuel, so here in Italy they give contibutions for the conversions, and let them circulate even when the pollution is high and other cars aren't allowed to run. This has no technical reason, since LPG isn't actually better than fuel: it's just a "lobbystic miracle".
Yes, you read well: when the pollution is high some cars can't be used. So one buyes a car, payes heavy taxes on it, and still can't use it. I hate it, I don't think it's right.
Cheers.
Stefano
Still waiting for a helping tip about my question.
