Have you unscrewed the electrical part from the housing that sits in the transmission? And is it the little square shaft inside electric sensor that you are missing?

That shaft cannot fall into transmission when removing the electrical sensor.

I got the impression that you meant the toothed plastic gear that goes into transmission. That one can fall into trans if it's not snapped into the housing. But it sounds like you have that part figured out since you have replaced it ones.

That little drive shaft (looking like a piece of old speedocable) is probably still in the sensor or it might have fallen to the ground when you took the sensor off.
Make sure you find it because you can't buy that shaft seperate.
