Yesterday i had to travel to my regional branch office, 120 miles. When i went out to lunch i could hear a 'grinding' noise near my alternator. I called my garage in Maine for their 2 cents.
I leave Marlboro Mass, at 5;30 last night and get 3 mile east on I-495 (busy road). My battery light comes on and my volts drop from 13.4 to 11.2. I shut down all none critical function, radio, lites, etc. I travel about 60 mile to the first toll plaza, volts drop to 10.5 at plaza, but pick back up once traveling again. I make it through Portsmouth and into Maine, now about 40 miles from home. The entirer ride i can hear the alternator bushing 'screaming' I get to Well, Maine (30 miles from Home) and 'screaming' stops. Now volts are dropping a 1/10 volt every 1/2 mile. Went through contruction area with 10.2 volts, got to within 1/2 mile of rest area/mobile station and start to lose interior lites, i glide into parking spot at the garage. Now it 8 pm. Service guy help me push into bay and put on battery charger, hoping to get enough juice to get me the last 20 miles. After 30 minutes volts read 11.1, try and start car and will not 'fire' At this point i start arranging a ride home.
So now car is at rest area. Where do i go from here?
As always, thanks in advacne for the input
