I just had a conversation with the inspection mechanic while he was inspecting my car. He was saying that next year any car with aftermarket anything ie. lights, exhaust, suspension... would fail MA inspection. He passed my car but said that my exhaust was not OE and should be failed. If a DMV cop had dropped in to do a surprise inspection on him, he would have failed me. I asked him if it was a measurement of dB's and he just said if it is obviously aftermarket, it will fail. This is just an FYI to those living in this area and mod your cars. Seems like we're turning into the Peoples Republic of California with each passing day.

Anyone in central MA that has a full 3" JT exhaust and would like to meet up with me, send me an email. I've heard a sound clip of a 9000 with one and it didn't sound loud at all. My car on the other hand is not quiet, so I might have to look for a new inspection station with lower levels of tollerance, or a new exhaust.

ps. he also said, "most VOLVO'S that come in with a stock muffler, are barely audible." that said a lot about the guy, so I'll leave it at that.
