When I was living in the north (= salt in the winter) I've had very bad experiences with both Starla and OE systems.
In the past (10 years ago) the OE systems seems to be of quite high quality, but about the time they introduced their "lifetime warranty" the quality dropped big time. I installed a Saab sport exhaust on my '86 9000 and in about a year there was fiberglass coming out the tailpipe and the pipes were almost perforated. I figured maybe it was a fluke (having had very good experience in the past) so ordered another one and installed it. A year and a half later, same problem. This time I got it replaced under warranty and got rid of the car shortly after.
On the flip side, I installed a Saber stainless 2.5" cat-back system (available from acceleratedresponse.com) on my '97 Aero and absolutely love it. High-quality 100% stainless components, and it fits well. Sounds a tiny bit "ricy" but it's acceptable, and it helps performance a little. And it costs $600 - that's less than your quote for OEM!
