Been here for 3 months or so. Saw the huge snowstorm etc. Have had the chance to drive on light snow and ice. The car came with a set of 4 different POS tires. After researching a lot, I came to two choices -

- Dunlop Sport 5000
- Nokian WR.

I chose the Nokian tires. They are kinda expensive (110 each i think). And the closest they are available is in Allentown (50 miles north). They are All-Season tires. However, they are the *only* all-season tires out there that have the "Severe Weather" rating on them. Supposed to out-handle other snow tires (tread design mostly). But, the best fit for our cars is 205/60. They dont have the stock 9000 size of 205/55 on stock 15 inch rims. Its a 3% increase in radius/circumference. Still legal.

How do they drive? Traction is all I care about. But, these tires have a 60000 mile warranty and are very noisefree and smooth riding.

What about snow/ice? There was this one night that I noticed a mild spin of the tires when starting from a stop sign. I was surprised since there was no noise and starting thinking about a slipping clutch. When it happened a second time, I stepped outside to check the tires. And almost fell. The entire road was covered with ice and I could not stand on it with my sneakers. And I had just driven normally through 1 mile of twisty road. Needless to say, I was impressed. Lateral traction is stellar on ice and good all-seasonish in dry. Braking/accelerating traction is not as impressive. But still great for an all-season.

Would I recommend them? BY FAR! They helped me drive with a lot more peace of mind in inclement weather.

And dont you think you should get Scandinavian tires to go with the Scandinavian car? ;)
